Vlaamse Vervoermaatschappij De Lijn (Belgium)


De Lijn is an autonomous public company that is responsible for the regional and city transport with buses and trams in Flanders, Belgium. In 1991 De Lijn originated from a merger of MIVA, MIVG and the Flemish part of the NMVB. De Lijn is the commercial name of the Flemish transportation company or "Vlaamse Vervoermaatschappij" (VVM). De Lijn aims at high quality, customer oriented public transportation, with particular emphasis on reliable and on-time monitoring for optimum security. The rolling stock department of De Lijn deals with the inspection of wheel sets on a daily basis. De Lijn also has experience in other European research projects such as Qcity.

Role in the project

De Lijn will participate in this project as an end-user of the systems developed in SAFERAIL. De Lijn will assist in the development and integration of these systems by making available track, vehicle(s) and wheel sets. De Lijn will also assist in the dissemination and exploitation of the project's achievements and results. De Lijn will also offer the valuable expertise of its rolling stock department during the project.

Reason for participating

De Lijn wishes to maximise safety in its transport network and therefore, is highly interested in the development and successful implementation of the research conducted in SAFERAIL. The participation of De Lijn will also guarantee the immediate exploitation and validation of the on-line system at an end-user.
